How Do We Support Youth with Educational Needs?
Supporting youth with educational needs means understanding where they are academically and skill-wise, and providing the tools to help them progress.

The key to educational support is being open to learning alongside the youth. Every school operates differently, so it’s essential to use school websites and resources to guide them effectively.
High School Support
- Tutoring: Offer personalized academic help to improve understanding and performance.
- Graduation Navigation: Assist youth in meeting graduation requirements and exploring post-secondary options.
- College Preparation: Help them understand and meet A-G requirements if they plan to pursue higher education.
GED Support
- Online GED Program: We provide access to an online GED program where students can study at their own pace. When ready, they can visit the center to take the test with staff assistance.
- Local GED Resources: Help locate other GED programs in the area that fit their needs.
College Support
- Choosing a Path: Guide youth in deciding between community college and four-year institutions based on their goals and interests.
- Application Assistance: Support the college application process from start to finish.
- Degree Planning: Help them identify degree programs aligned with their aspirations.
- Graduation Planning: Assist in navigating the steps for college graduation, such as meeting with counselors and applying through the registration department.
Trade School Support
- Program Selection: Help youth identify the type of program or certification they want to pursue.
- School Research: Assist in finding the right trade school through research and online resources.
- Application Support: Provide guidance on completing trade school applications, ensuring they include the required information.
Financial Aid Support
There are various types of financial aid available to help youth access education. We assist with researching and completing applications for:
- FAFSA
- Chafee Grant for Foster Youth
- 10,000 Degrees Scholarships (a resource for a wide range of scholarships)
- School-Specific Scholarships (found on individual school websites)
We work with youth to ensure they understand the financial aid options available to them and support them through the application process.
